SPRING 2015, Open Classroom/Workshop Programme

Following the success of our Autumn term sessions, we launched Phase 2 with our Connecting Classrooms Brochure Spring 2015 (click to view) – We offered ‘open classrooms’, followed by workshops linked to the lesson.

The Specialist Leaders of Education were appointed through a National College process. All are excellent teachers and excellent communicators.

Can the SLEs work in schools?  All SLEs are also available to support school development priorities. A core role is to empower school middle leaders to develop and lead their own staff.  There is limited availability, as all are working in schools with class responsibilities. Please see specific details for each SLE and book dates in good time, again through the Teaching School Alliance as above

How can I become an SLE ?

To become an SLE, you need to be an outstanding middle or senior school leader with a particular area of expertise. You must have the capacity, skills and commitment to support others in similar positions in other schools. Your own headteacher must be happy for you to undertake outreach work – there is flexibility in commitment  from a minimum of 1 day per year to a maximum of 15 days per year). Your school will receive £300 reimbursement per full day.

Applications will be made directly to us (rather than to the National College). Please download the Application Form –  SLE Application Form Camden Primary Partnership TSA Sept 15 and complete and return to Sarah Ewins by 12 noon on Friday 18th September 2015. Interviews are scheduled for 28th September (although other dates may be added)  Before you apply please make sure you (and your referee) read the latest guidance from the National College.

To be successful in your application, you will have:

  • a successful track record of working effectively within your own school and/or across a group of schools, or working with a range of leaders within a single school
  • evidence of successfully using coaching and/or facilitation skills to bring about sustainable improvements
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • an understanding of what constitutes ‘outstanding’ in your field of expertise and the ability and confidence to communicate this
  • an understanding of how your specialism and skills can contribute to wider school improvement goals
  • an analytical approach in identifying and prioritising needs
  • the ability to set and establish new and innovative working practices
  • the ability to grow leadership capacity in others

Teaching Schools are allowed to designate a set number of SLEs per year. We currently have 12 SLEs with expertise in English, Maths, ICT, Drama, Music and initial teacher training. Our SLEs are specialist teachers with outstanding skills and a strong track record of supporting teachers. Please contact Sarah Ewins if you are interested in deploying any of our SLEs.

Do contact Sarah Ewins 020 7485 2155  or  if you have any queries.

Commissioning SLE support

SLE support is normally commissioned at a rate  of £350 per day, although this may be negotiated depending on the type and length of support required. If you are interested in commissioning SLE support from Eleanor Palmer, please contact Sarah Ewins Director of Teaching School at

If the support you are looking for is not covered by our SLEs at the moment, you may wish to contact us to discuss commissioning other support. We have a number of other outstanding, experienced middle and senior leaders both at Eleanor Palmer and within our partner schools. We also have strong links with other Teaching Schools across London so even if we can’t help you ourselves, we are likely to know someone else who can!
